Through the years God has brought us friendships with those whom our paths may have never crossed if it were not for His divine providence and placing us in a Bible study group with them. I think it is so cool how God uses the study, discussion, and application of His Word to knit together those who otherwise may not have a lot in common. Much of our personal ministry support comes from people who we’ve met throughout the years in Bible study.
Years ago God placed Victoria and me in the same discussion group at Women’s Bible Study. Having never met before that Tuesday evening, only God knew the future between this successful career woman and a stay-at-home mom. As time passed, and God’s work in each of our lives paralleled our studies through several books of the Bible, God knit our hearts together.
Shortly after our move to México, God moved Victoria and her husband, John, from San Diego to the Bay Area. In a search for a place to fellowship, the Lord led them to Westgate Church. Still not sure if this was to be their church home, John and Victoria attended a newcomers informational meeting where they learned about the church’s involvement in missions. When they heard that this church serves at Grace Children’s Home, it was confirmation that this was to be their church home.
Westgate Church is a big support to GCH. They had a large role in the construction of our Education Center, and now the Baby Home. When Victoria told me that this is where they were going to fellowship, I was thrilled. Every few months when the Westgate teams arrived to work on the Baby Home, I had a secret longing to see my friend’s beautiful face pop out of their big, white van. When I didn’t see her, I prayed that the Lord would bring her down in His time.
Yesterday Juan and I met the Westgate team at Costco in Chula Vista to lead them down to GCH. When I saw Victoria come around from the big, white van my heart leaped for joy. As excited as I was to see my friend, I was more excited for her to see firsthand the work that she and John have been a part of from the beginning.
When I think about my relationship with Victoria and so many others that I have met in Bible studies throughout the years, I realize that God’s Word is a great place to start friendship. Now I look around my BSF group and wonder which of the women will be coming down to México to serve alongside us at the Baby Home next year. God already knows.
